The Basic Flea Comb features an ergonomic plastic handle that fits perfectly in the hand for combing without fatigue. The close pins easily remove fleas, flea eggs and debris from the coat.
The simplest, most natural flea control product is the flea comb. It does takes about 15 minutes a day to comb through your dog's coat but you'll be eliminating the use of spot-on flea products that the EPA is investigating for being harmful to pets. To learn more about how we're poisoning our dogs, go to dogs4.dogs.com. If you want to find out exactly what chemicals are in the flea products you use, go to http://www.greenpaws.org. They also provide a pocket guide that can be downloaded so you can bring the list with you when you go to the vet or supply store to buy flea products.
To use your flea comb:
- Take your dog outside to flea-comb so you don't re-infest your house if a flea jumps off while you're combing
- Get a large, disposable/recyclable cup and fill it 1/2 full of water
- Add a dab of dishwashing detergent to the cup (this will kill the fleas)
- Put a straw in the cup so you can push down the dog hair that will come off your comb (all combed hair goes in the cup even if you don't see a flea because there could be a flea egg hiding there)
- Start combing your dog's head and work your way back to their tail
- Repeat everyday
