Do not give dog or puppies rawhide chews of any kind. Besides being made from the skins of horses, pigs, cows and even dogs and cats who live and die in cruelty, rawhide can be deadly for our dogs and puppies too. When dogs eat rawhide, it can swell up to four times its original size and cause life-threatening blockages requiring surgery to remove. Rawhide chews also presents a choking hazard for puppies and dogs who chew them into smaller pieces that can then get stuck in their esophagus, restricting breathing and again requiring surgery to remove.Rawhide may also contain chemical preservatives including arsenic, ethoxyquin, formaldehyde, BHA and BHT. Tests made on imported pet products made from animal hides have revealed many carried the salmonella bug, a common cause of gastrointestinal infections in humans.
Rawhide is not good for any dogs or puppies and can be replaced with safe rubber toys.
